We would like to thank everyone who attended SLAS 2014 for making it a vibrant and exciting conference. All of us at Birkbeck were delighted to be able to bring together top researchers involved in Latin American Studies in the UK and abroad. We hope you enjoyed it as much as we did! We look forward to seeing you all again at next year's conference in Aberdeen.

Conference

The Society for Latin American Studies held its 50th Anniversary Conference in 2014 at Birkbeck, University of London, welcoming around 300 academics to the two and a half-day event. The conference programme reflected the diversity of Latin American Studies, whose interdisciplinary nature incorporates the study of history, music, economics, anthropology, development, literature, history and international relations. The conference included nearly 50 panels, some which focused on a specific country and others which used comparison between Latin American countries, or between Latin America and Europe, to explore the new developments and challenges that are faced both in Latin America and globally.

Keynotes

The SLAS 2014 keynotes were delivered by Professor Matthew Restall of Pennsylvania State University and Professor Javier Auyero of University of Texas at Austin.
