Many thanks to all who participated in this year's festival, which was an exciting and vibrant event.

The Royal Anthropological Institute together with the Institute of Social and Cultural Anthropology, University of Oxford, in association with the Department of Anthropology, Oxford Brookes University, held the Ninth RAI International Festival of Ethnographic Film, in the historic city of Oxford.  Both Universities have a strong commitment to Visual Anthropology and ethnographic film-making within their curricula.

Events during the Festival included:

• Gala opening with invited distinguished speaker, special film screening, and drinks reception
• Competitive and parallel film screenings, including special sessions devoted to student films.
• Award of the RAI Festival Film Prizes: The Royal Anthropological Institute Film Prize; The Basil Wright Film Prize; The Blackwell Student Video Prize; the Material Culture and Archaeology Film Prize; and the popular Audience Award
• Videolibrary of all submitted films and a selection of films related to the history of Anthropology in Oxford (and films relating to some of the workshops)
• A choice of parallel workshops each day; workshops open to all registered participants in the Festival include:*
     -  Revisiting the history of visual anthropology (invited speakers)
     -  Visual Anthropology ­ a student perspective on teaching and learning
     -  A multimedia future for anthropology? (invited speakers) 
     -  Archival Ethnographic Film and the Digital Future (invited speakers)
     -  Advocacy and participatory video
     -  Metamorphosis (invited speakers)
     -  Masterclasses with David MacDougall (Doon School Project) and Jay Ruby (Oak Park Stories Project)

ANTHROPOLOGY AT OXFORD, 1905-2005: A CENTENARY CONFERENCE
September 15th – 18th, 2005
