Meetings: Europeanists network

Towards an anthropology of Europe. Setting the agenda for collaborative work and research over the following two years.

Short description

This 'business meeting' would call on the present and likely new members of the Europeanists Network to meet and thoroughly discuss the setting of an agenda for collaborative work over the following two years.

Long description

This ‘business meeting’ would call on the present and likely new members of the Europeanists Network to meet and thoroughly discuss the setting of an agenda for collaborative work over the following two years, until the next Conference of the EASA takes place. Specific proposals coming from members of the network for developing collaborative research projects, joint teaching-training degrees, or any other professional joint ventures would be taken into consideration. A particular attention should be given to the setting of a priority research agenda on the Anthropology of Europe.

In its turn, the Steering Committee would put forward its own proposals for collaborative work to be undertaken from the platform provided by the Europeanists Network. There are concrete projects already under way which will be presented and discussed at the meeting, namely:

  • The convening of a symposium in 2007 on the theme: Anthropology in Europe. Facing the Challenges of Academic Convergence and Cooperation in Higher Education and in Scientific Research. The issue to discuss would be how members of the Europeanists Network might get involved in bringing the project forward.
  • Linked to the meeting mentioned above, there is the project to undertake the researching and production of a Survey on the Status of Anthropology in Europe. This survey or report should be concluded before the symposium takes place, so that the results may be thoroughly discussed there by an appointed panel of senior scholars.
  • Concerted research project Critical Re-studies of European Communities. Suggested by Petr Skalník in 2003, this research initiative will enable to review critically the existing monographs and allow for understanding the changes which took place in the once studied communities.

Last but not least, we will aim in the course of this plenary meeting at the stating of a policy of collaboration between the Europeanists Network and any other networks, societies or working groups with overlapping aims and interests.
